Springing Forward…

The first day of spring. An auspicious day to premier our new website and renewed commitment to defying expectations and denying limitations.

I’m sentimental. I form strong emotional bonds with people and things. Some may call it a strength, others a weakness. Regardless, before hitting “publish” on a new website and then “redirect” on the old that served Words Take Flight Books well for almost 12 years, I found myself scrolling through the soon-to-be-a-memory website like I was flipping through the pages of a family photo album. Smiling when I looked at From the Editor’s Desk posts or book pub dates and thinking about all of the people who made and continue to make [WAVES HAND] all of this not just possible, but genuinely rewarding and fun.

In the end, I hit my buttons and clicked my links knowing that it was less of a goodbye and more of a hello - a greeting to a new chapter in the Words Take Flight Books story.

Every day, I consider myself fortunate to do what I do. It’s a privilege to work with, promote - and, yes, consider friends - the smartest, most creative people I’ve ever met. Yes, I know. “It’s just business, Michael.” But when someone entrusts you with a book into which they’ve poured themselves, that represents a craft that they’ve dedicated their time and, in many cases, life to honing, you create together something that transcends business, dollars and cents: You form a bond with the writer and the words. And to paraphrase a quote we all know, with a bond of personal and professional trust comes great responsibility.

And that is a responsibility I take very seriously.

Of course, why do I, as a publisher, and they, as authors, do what we do? Because there are stories that need to be told - and read.

That’s why Words Take Flight Books continues to publish books that make people think, question and sense - and, at times, feel uncomfortable and, maybe, quite frankly, a little pissed off. If you ain’t reacting, you ain’t reading - and neither I nor the author is getting the job done.

If you like what you read, let us - me and the author - know. If you don’t, please do the same. We’re all adults here.

And, of course, if you’re an aspiring or established author with one of those stories that needs to be told, please drop me an email and let’s talk about how to let your words take flight.

So, is everybody ready?

Here we go.
